Our museum educational mission
In its museum educational activities the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Asiatic Arts seeks to represent Asian cultures authentically, faithfully and in an easily understandable way in experience-centred workshops organised for children, teenagers and adults of all ages, while keeping in mind the delicate balance between the relevant Asian cultures. Our revamped programmes enable visitors to explore a given theme in depth, evoke their personal interests (competitions, family events), which can be linked to the curriculum in kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools and universities, while embracing challenges arising from individual needs.
As stated in the museum educational mission of the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Asiatic Arts, besides disseminating basic knowledge to the public, becoming familiar with Oriental cultures begins with “where art is still a game”. Therefore, we make our museum part of the educational process by supplementing what it can offer with various workshops and activities.

Importantly, the museum’s Asian profile requires that we engage the openness of the participants of our workshops to the topics presented, taking into consideration the considerable presence of Asian communities in Hungary. Acceptance based on an understanding of another person’s culture plays a key role in the processes of social integration. Thus, an understanding and acceptance of other cultures – and in the broader sense of other people – as well as helping people able to live by art constitute a fundamental educational task, in which museums play a determining role. With this awareness of its mission the museum wishes to consolidate its role as a mediator of culture.

Our museum educational programmes, as well as publications linked to our exhibitions (e.g. museum educational booklets, information materials about our exhibitions) and those independent of these exhibitions (e.g. our Museum Educational Library series) are important sources of learning about the world outside Europe; moreover, they provide valuable reference points and supplementary material to the knowledge acquired in primary, secondary and tertiary education in Hungary.
