This object is related to the consumption of betel, a popular custom in South Asian countries. It is a spherical, cracked glazed slaked lime container with a pedestal, and a twisted, drapery-like handle at the top. A two centimeter wide opening on the side provides access to the contents. It came to the Hopp Museum as an exchange gift from the Museum of History of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1961.
