The picture depicts traditional Javanese medicine (Indonesian: kerokan; Chinese: gua sha, 刮痧). The inscription itself refers to this: the phrase 'Ejang dikerok' literally means 'woman who heals by rubbing'. The cure consists of 'rubbing' a blunt object to create different lines on the patient's body, which is said to have a very beneficial effect on many ailments (e.g. colds).
