Babesh Chandra Sanyal is an outstanding figure of modern Indian painting and sculputre. The characteristic motif of his art is the archetypal human suffering, as well as the recording of the everyday struggles of the lower social classes, primarily in rural, village scenery. He made his paintings with watercolor and oil paint. It is characterized by strong warm, natural, pastel-effect colors and rounded shapes.
