Batik artist Mawasi Ram was born into a family of potters. He worked also as a potter and folk artist. He taught pottery at the Modern School in New Delhi. In addition to the National Gallery in New Delhi, the Metropolitan Museum in New York also keeps one of his works. The picture is a depiction of a scene from the epic Mahabharata, showing the battle between Prince Arjuna and his enemy Duryodhana.
