This hammered steel knife with its distinctive shape, with a carved (pistol) handle attached to a sometimes straight, sometimes slightly S-curved blade at an angle of 45-90 degrees, is common in many islands of Indonesia (Java, Madura, Sumatra, Celebes/Sulawesi).
The handle of the blade in the picture, from the southern part of Sulawesi, and the two ends of the sheath are made of ivory, while the body is made of Macassar ebony with a decorative bone finish.
It is an extremely practical hand weapon, suitable for both stabbing and cutting, and can be carried on the right or left side. Collected by Ferenc Hopp.
