Somnath Hore was a sculptor, painter and graphic artist. He was one of India's most respected engravers and printmakers. In his works, he depicts the suffering caused by famine and wars. The artwork preserved in our museum is a colored copper engraving made in 1961, which came to Hungary during the cultural exchange program of 1966-67. In 1962, Hore won the Lalit Kala Akademi National Graphic Award for the work. Several engravings are preserved in the world's leading museums, including the Gray Art Gallery of New York University, and it was also featured in the 2021 centenary exhibition of the Kiran Nadar Museum in New Delhi. "The Birth of the White Rose" is exceptional in Hore's art: instead of suffering, it depicts the birth of beauty.
