Iconographic type: Muchalinda Buddha. The Buddha seated on a cobra throne is an important iconographic type in Khmer Buddhist art. The Buddha, represented with a naked torso and a cap-like hair style on his head, is sheltered by a seven-headed Naga cloak; here, the main head is broken. The image is in Bayon style, named after Jayavarman VII's temple mountain. In contrast to the more linear features of earlier sculpture, emphasis in Bayon style tends to be on the proportions of mass, while the outlines are less marked.Collected by Ferenc Hopp.
