Western-style Burmese armchair with openwork decoration. This ornate piece of furniture, with its red silk upholstery (presumably retrofitted with a padded back for the European owner), was not only a basic function, but also an elegant decoration for a luxurious home. The stylized leafy border of the backrest is decorated with fruit, flowers and small birds, while the legs are made up of a vertical row of bird figures perched on a lion's head. The latter almost carry the armchair rest on their backs.
