In Chinese mythology, the phoenix (Chinese fenghuang) is the king of feathered creatures. Phoenix depictions often mix features of pheasants and peacocks, and frequently resemble coloured-feathered birds of paradise. The earthenware or stoneware body was decorated with yellow and green, or purple and turquoise blue (fahua) glaze.
