bandaji, 반다지 (반닫이) ’half closed chest’
The half-closing chest with a door opening downwards in the upper half (bandaji) was a popular furniture type in Korea. The upper part of the front panel of this four-legged chest of Japanese Zelkova wood can be opened downwards. The edges are decorated with fittings of bat and rhomboid motifs arranged in a row; in Korea, both motifs were popular symbols of good luck.
