Bombay paintress Subhadra S. Anandkar represented herself at the 1956 Indian fine art exhibition in Budapest with her painting Fear. In the 1940s, with the leadership of S.B.Palsikar (whose painting was also exhibited in Budapest at the time), a modern art group operated in Bombay, which included Anandkar, Laxman Pai, V.S. Gaitonde with Mohan Samant. The group was inspired by miniature painting. The painting appears to be an illustration, presumably telling a story. The identity of the female creator and the title of the picture draw attention to the vulnerable position of women in India.
