The thangka wihtout border depicts Guan Yu, the Han Dynasty Chinese general, in the 18th-century style, seated on a chair draped with a tiger skin, touching his beard with his right hand and with a sword at his right side. His officials can be seen on either side, and in front of him is his beloved horse. The figure of Guan Yu was included in the ranks of Buddhist folk deities in the 18th century, and in folklore is often confused with the popular figure of Geser.
