Gao Qipei spent his youth in Jianchang, the southeast region of Jiangxi province. In his picture entitled The Hermit, he depicts the figure with bent back and curly, bushy hair. The painting in possession of the Hopp Museum is an authentic copy of the original. The artist might be one of Gao Qipei’s close disciples.
