The monk in the painting turns his upper body slightly to the right. In his left hand he holds prayer beads, and in his right hand he holds a vajra. In one of the upper corners is a pine tree painted in gold with Japanese characters inscribed on it, and in the other is a calligraphic inscription written over a landscape.
