The deity Kongōsatta (金剛薩埵, Sanskrit: Vajrasattva), who is revered as the first patriarch of the Japanese Shingon school of esoteric Buddhism, is depicted seated on an enormous lotus flower throne on an intricately worked hexagonal and octagonal base. The figure is surrounded by a double halo. Above his head are colourful clouds.
