Box for gloves (tebukuro-bako) depicting travellers on a mountain pass. Long, slim box with hinged lid and hammered lock with key. Unsigned. The piece probably represents the 6th jewel river of the Seven Jewel Rivers iconographic series. Purchased by János Xántus in Japan in 1869. Analogy: Museum für Angewandte Kunst (Vienna): inv. no. OR 3832, which was exhibited at the Vienna World Fair (Wiener Weltausstellung) in 1873.
