Fine accessories of writing – brushes, paper, ink, and ink grinding stone – reflected deep respect of literacy. Especially beautiful were the writing boxes (suzuribako) containing the dry cake of ink, the grinding stone, brushes, and water dropper. This item has the shape of a bugaku cap (tori-kabuto). It is decorated with a pattern of flowers and lucky symbols. Unsigned.
