Embossed, spherical shaped red and gold lacquer piece on a round pedestal.. The decoration is distinctly Chinese. On the lid are a woman sitting in a garden holding a fan and a man leaning on a book case, with a wreath of four-petalled flowers, vines and leaves, two butterflies and two crickets on the sides. Flowery branches appear at the bottom. The rim is gilded where the lid meets the base. The interior is undecorated with black lacquer.
