Fragment of a frieze portraying a recumbent lion from a Buddhist stupa. The left paw and the protruding tongue are visible in the sculpture. It is a frequent element of early Buddhist art to show everyday life scenes, often including animals. This piece is less elaborate than the similar lion figure in our collection ( HFM_50.48.1 )
