The figure depicts a lying, curled-up dog. Its head is resting between its outstretched legs; it has pulled its tail to its body. The red earthenware body was covered with slip; by now, most of it has wore off. Ceramic figures of dogs often occur in the Han period (206 BC–220 AD); glazed and unglazed variations are both known
