The Mughal carpets produced in the 16th -18th centuries were unique masterpieces of Mughal art. Due to their immense value and fragility, they often appear on the art market as cut-up fragments. In line with Mughal carpet manufacturing traditions, this fragment is also decorated with clearly distinct floral elements spread out accross the surface. The fragment is hand knotted using brightly dyed wool on raw and salmon-coloured cotton. It only gives a hint of the grandiose beauty of the original carpet, still it gives proof of the brilliant technical skills of the period.
