Fan paintings are the painted decorations on fans practical in the heat of the Far East for cooling. The genre itself appeared in China in the Song period. The circular fan painting hints at the event of refreshment: a steep shore with rocks is seen with an old pine tree. The calligraphy describes the landcape of the fan. See. inv. no.: 5604.
