The chhatri (meaning ’umbrella’ or ’canopy’) is usually an open stone structure with a square floorplan, with four pillars supporting a dome-like stone canopy, culminating in an ornate peak. The chhatri is a traditional feature of Mughal, Maratha and Rajput architecture, and most examples are found in Northwest India.
