Buddha with the right hand in the gesture of touching the earth (Skt.: bhumisparsa mudra). A typical Mandalay-style, Burmese Buddha (late 18th – early 19th century) with an oval face, sharp and pointed nose, semi-smiling mouth and a thick, fleshy ushnisha without cintamani. The face is separated from the curls of the hair by a fillet band, which is also a characteristic feature of the Mandalay-syle Buddha images. The eyes are embossed with stone inlay. Traces of red paint in the wrinkles of the drapery suggest that the statue must have originally been painted and most probably gilded as well.
