Blue and white porcelain, decorated with lotus, mandarin ducks and a butterfly couple, brown rim. Stylized cobalt inscription on the base of the shou (long life) character. In Chinese culture, the depiction of a pair of mandarin ducks is a powerful symbol of conjugal fidelity. The object in the picture was made by Chinese craftsmen in the Jingdezhen manufacture for the Vietnamese court in the 19th century.
