The use of Jian teacups was particularly promoted by monastic communities in Zhejiang province. These ceramics were taken to Japan by those Japanese monks who visited the monasteries of the Tianmu Mountain. In Japan, they came to be known under the name of tianmu, or, with Japanese pronounciation, temmoku. Southern Song dynasty.
