Batik artist Mawasi Ram was born into a family of potters. He also worked as a potter and folk artist. He taught pottery at the Modern School in New Delhi. In addition to the National Gallery in New Delhi, the Metropolitan Museum in New York also keeps one of his works. In addition to the present picture, our museum also keeps a picture entitled "Arjuna and Duryodhana" ( HFM_66.59.1 ). The present picture depicts a temple carriage, which is driven out into the city on a festival occasion, and inside it transports the deity carried around during processions, the so-called moving image.
