The famous poet Lin Heqing (Japanese name: Rinnasei) lived in the early eleventh century in Hangzhou, Southern China, and was greatly esteemed even in the imperial court. In this painting, the bird is emerging from behind the poet’s back. In the bottom left-hand corner are the signature of the artist Yūkō and a red stamp.
