Dezső Bozóky hand-coloured glass diapositive. Unknown photographer. Photograph purchased by Dezső Bozóky. Related item: A.4760.2.28.4. (photo). The stone stela commemorating the foundation of Wongaksa Monastery stood in what was Seoul’s first public park. The park occupied the former grounds of the largest Buddhist monasteries in the city, the Wongaksa, which had been built in the 15th century.
All that remained of the monastery by the 16th century was a marble pagoda, and the stone stela that commemorated the foundation of Wongaksa.
