Memorial Event of Jenő Lénárd

Memorial Event of Jenő Lénárd

After obtaining his doctorate in the humanities at the University of Budapest, philosophy professor Jenő Lénárd led an expedition to Asia Minor in 1918 with István Györffy and Gábor László. The aim of their undertaking was a thorough ethnographic, anthropological and geological exploration of the regions of northern Anatolia and Samsun. The expedition was hindered by local authorities, as the Turkish government had signed an armistice with the Entente powers, leading to the internment of the Hungarian colony in Constantinople at British request. Luckily, the return of the internees was secured through the efforts of Jenő Lénárd's Masonic contacts. One of Lénárd’s most significant achievements as an Orientalist is Dhammó —the first complete philosophical and historical synthesis of Buddhist doctrines in Hungarian.

To mark the centenary of his death on 2 December 1924, a commemorative event will be held by the Hopp Museum at the Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – Budapesti Török Kulturális Központ (1062 Budapest, Andrássy út 62.).
