The Magician's Garden | Contemporary Arts and Crafts Fair

The Magician's Garden | Contemporary Arts and Crafts Fair

The spring installment of our biannual contemporary arts and crafts fair accompanies the exhibition "BREATHING LIGHT | Spiritism, Theosophy, Buddhism in Hungary at the Turn of the 19th-20th Century". Throughout the day, you can admire, try on, or buy charming floral and plant-inspired creations and handicrafts. The fair is accompanied by exciting activities.

Devil's-bit, deadly nightshade, ghost pipe, wolf’s bane, snakeroot... Many garden flowers and wild plants were given eerie names by our ancestors. These names do not necessarily imply a ‘magical’ active component or that the plant is poisonous, but even with medicinal plants, it is best to be aware of the active ingredients and the ways in which they are used. Many flowers have the potential to be used as tools for dark deeds. Even in the Hopp Garden there are a few plants with evocative names; take for example the tree of heaven, or the sinister-sounding binomial name of the Chinese lacquer tree – Toxicodendron. The theme of the fair reflects our current exhibition and is all about magical plants.
