BAMBOO & DESIGN | Summer arts and crafts exhibition and fair
Bamboo has inspired many poets and artists over the centuries. It is a most widespread basic plant of East and Southeast Asia, and its manifold usage is fascinating: it is used to make brushes as well as paper to paint on, its fermented leaves are used to produce bamboo wine in some regions, and its buds are eaten as delicious food. Its fibres are used to make yarn for knitting/spinning, but bamboo is also used to make wind, percussion and stringed instruments because of its hollow nature and the particularly good resonance of its material. The thicker stems are used for building houses and scaffolding.
