BAMBOO & DESIGN | Summer arts and crafts exhibition and fair
For a day, the Hopp Museum's orientalising garden will again serve as a picturesque background for beautiful works of applied art. Last June the lotus was the common motif, in October the ginkgo, and for this early summer exhibition we have chosen bamboo, the various species of which can be found in the Hopp Museum garden. The objects presented by the artists are related to bamboo in their material, form or technique, as well as to the Japanese artworks on display in the Hopp Museum's current temporary exhibition. Amrita Chowdhury: Faking it | Literary event with the author
On her European tour, we are delighted to welcome author Amrita Chowdhury at Hopp Museum for a literary event. The author will present her book "Faking It" – an art crime thriller – where the story revolves around Amrita Sher Gil's paintings and the story mirrors some elements of her life. The book has been mentioned in various fora, articles, videos, and press releases about Amrita Sher Gil, including her various centenary events. Hopp Museum has an important collection of Amrita Sher Gil’s paintings, therefore serves as an ideal venue for the programme. More ❯❯❯
NIGHT OF MUSEUMS 2023
Museums’ Night at Hopp Museum is dedicated to Japanese culture this year, as our ongoing temporary exhibition presents outstanding pieces from one of the oldest core collection in our Japanese Collection Department, which was purchased by Count Bishop Péter Vay in Japan in 1907, on behalf of the Hungarian state.
On the garden stage, a series of short educational presentations await visitors – on the kimono tradition, ikebana, tea ceremony and anime culture – finally, a film screening closes the programme.

WAYANG SUKET WORKSHOP
At the end of April, Ki Purbo Asmoro introduced the genre of wayang kulit to Hopp Museum’s audience through a very successful programme. This time, a master of wayang suket (another wayang type), a member of the Wayang Suket Indonesia group comes to us to hold a wayang suket puppet making workshop in the museum garden. More ❯❯❯

Related to the Hopp Museum's ongoing temporary exhibition, he talks among others about the Vay Collection's connection with the Asian Collection at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Dhrupad: Classic music of ancient India | Experimental programme with Dr. Sumeet Anand Pandey dhrupad master
Dr. Sumeet Anand Pandey, Dhrupad singer (whose masters were his grandfather and Pandit Abhay Narayan Mallick), who will be visiting Hungary, agreed to come to Hopp Museum to hold an informal, interactive, hands-on lecture and teaching in the garden. Visitors and members of the audience are encouraged to actively participate: experiment with their voices, learn some basics of Dhrupad, immerse themselves in this ancient tradition. More ❯❯❯
Introduction to Hopp Museum's collections with the curator. A series of lectures - No. 5
In 2023, Hopp Museum celebrates a centenary again, as our first permanent exhibition was opened in 1923. It presented the Chinese, Indian and Japanese collections in a regional and chronological order, with around 1,000 objects on display. To mark this occasion, a series of lectures given by the curators will be held in 2023 to explore Asia from collection to collection. More ❯❯❯
