Dr. Györgyi Fajcsák, director of Ferenc Hopp Museum of Asiatic Arts, has been awarded a high state honour
János Csák, Minister of Culture and Innovation, on the nomination of dr. László Baán, Director General of the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest, awarded the Móra Ferenc Prize to dr. Györgyi Fajcsák, Director of the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Asiatic Arts. The award was presented by Eszter Vitályos, Deputy Minister of Culture and Innovation, and Magdolna Závogyán, State Secretary for Culture at the Pesti Vigadó, on the 19th of August 2023.
Dr. Györgyi Fajcsák graduated in Oriental Studies in 1990/1991, focusing on Tibetan and Chinese arts and culture, and obtained her academic degree in 2005. In her doctoral thesis, she explored the history of the collection of Oriental (mainly Chinese) artifacts in Hungary, which still determines her academic work today, as she is currently responsible for the Chinese and Korean Collections (in addition to her duties as director) at Hopp Museum. Her main research interests include Chinese art history (ceramics, painting, Chinese Buddhist art), cultural and art collecting history, and the reception of Chinese art in Europe.
The work of the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Asiatic Art, founded in 1919 and since 2014 again a member institution of the Museum of Fine Arts, has been renewed in recent years, thanks to the commitment and tremendous perseverance of Györgyi Fajcsák. One of the keys to her success lies in her decisive yet empathetic leadership style, which has enabled her to successfully lead the museum since 2007, for 16 years by now. As director, she has made a significant contribution to the social integration of Oriental art, having been involved in the creation of more than half a hundred exhibitions and in numerous research projects focusing on Asian art.
We warmly congratulate you on your high ministerial recognition!
