This scroll depicts the Western Paradise of the Amida Buddha and is based on an eighth-century woven depiction of paradise preserved in
the Taimadera Temple in Nara, only fragments of which remain today. The main figure in the central scene is the Amida Buddha, who is seated on his lotus throne surrounded by many other figures.
